Central African Leader Secures Victory in Presidential Election

(MENAFN) Faustin-Archange Touadera has secured a decisive victory in the Central African Republic's presidential race, capturing an overwhelming 76.15 percent of votes cast, provisional data from the National Elections Authority (ANE) revealed late Monday.

The commanding win places the sitting president far beyond reach of his nearest challenger, former Prime Minister Anicet-Georges Dologuele, who garnered just 14.66 percent support. Another ex-Prime Minister, Henri-Marie Dondra, trailed distantly with 3.19 percent of ballots.

ANE President Mathias Barthelemy Morouba declared Touadera, representing the United Hearts Movement, as "provisionally elected" to the nation's highest office during Monday's results announcement.

Election officials reported that 52.42 percent of the country's 2.3 million registered voters participated in the contest, Morouba confirmed while unveiling the tallies.

Shortly after the official announcement, Touadera addressed supporters through his campaign's social media channels, stating: "Thank you to the people of the Central African Republic. With 76.15 percent of the vote obtained in the first round, according to the provisional results from the National Elections Authority, your determination deserves to be commended. Together, we will continue the work."

The 68-year-old incumbent, who has governed since 2016, centered his campaign messaging on peace restoration and developmental progress in the conflict-scarred nation while pursuing a third consecutive term.

The preliminary figures now advance to the Constitutional Court for review, where officials will examine any filed objections before issuing final certification by Jan. 20.

Voters in the Central African Republic cast ballots on Dec. 28, 2025, selecting representatives across presidential, legislative, regional and municipal contests simultaneously.
