Douglas County Commissioners to consider ballot title for voter-initiated ballot measure at Friday Special Business Meeting

The next step for a voter-initiated measure to add two Douglas County Commissioners comes Friday, when the Board will consider the measure’s ballot title at a Special Business Meeting. 

The Special Business Meeting follows a Work Session on Thursday, Aug. 27, where Commissioners made three motions related to the measure. The Board directed staff to: 

• Include information in the ballot title clarifying the financial impacts of expanding the Board from three to five Commissioners and present that information at the Business Meeting on Friday. 
• Adjust ballot title language as needed to ensure clarity for voters.
• Draft language to refer a ballot measure that would give voters a third option to elect the five-member Board entirely at large, if the expansion is approved. 

Thursday’s Work Session follows action from a Tuesday, Aug. 25 Business Meeting, where the Board adopted procedures for carrying out its responsibilities for voter-initiated ballot measures.  

Special Business Meeting Friday
At a Special Business Meeting at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 28, the Board will consider the voter-initiated ballot title and related items. The timing allows for the 72-hour window for ballot title challenges ahead of the Sept. 4 ballot deadline.
