FEC Presses Angie Nixon’s Senate Campaign Over Excessive Contributions, Nearly $79,000 Drop in Reported Receipts, and Repeated Reporting Errors

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Federal Election Commission has sent multiple Requests for Additional Information to Democratic Socialist Angie Nixon’s U.S. Senate campaign, citing apparent contribution-limit problems and reporting errors across several filings.

The agency warned that failure to correct or adequately explain the issues by October 22 could lead to an audit or formal enforcement action.

The notices come weeks after the National Legal and Policy Center filed a criminal referral with the U.S. Attorney General alleging that Nixon omitted more than $30,000 in unpaid IRS taxes and federal student loans from her Senate financial disclosure. The same debts appear on her Florida state disclosure, filed the same day.

The FEC notices flag:

Excessive or improperly designated contributions. In the 2025 year-end report, the FEC flagged contributions of $7,250 from Whitney Touchton and $7,000 from Stanley Twiggs that lacked election designations, along with a $5,000 transfer from U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib’s campaign that exceeded the $2,000 per-election limit. In the amended April quarterly report, it flagged additional contributions that appear to exceed individual limits, including three Touchton family members each listed at $7,000.

A $300 contribution from an organization the FEC said is not registered as a federal political committee. The campaign was told to show the funds were permissible or refund them.

A $78,941.28 reduction in previously reported receipts in the amended April quarterly report, without adequate explanation.

Incorrect cycle-to-date totals on 11 lines of the July quarterly report. The same errors reappeared in the 12-day pre-primary report, and the FEC ordered corrections to every affected filing.

“Angie Nixon’s campaign is already under FEC scrutiny for excessive contributions, an unexplained nearly $79,000 drop in receipts, and repeated accounting errors. This comes on top of a criminal referral for hiding unpaid taxes and student loans from her Senate disclosures,” said Florida GOP Chairman Evan Power. “Voters have a right to know where a candidate’s money comes from and whether her disclosures are accurate. Angie Nixon should provide those answers before the deadline she was given.”

The Florida GOP calls on Nixon’s campaign to respond fully to the FEC by October 22 and to give the public a clear accounting of the flagged contributions and the receipt discrepancy.
